Converting to Plain Text

Click on the EndNote X9 tab in the word toolbar
Click on Convert Citations and Bibliography
Click on Convert to Plain Text

The plain text version opens as a new document
Save the new document
This new document will have in-text citations and a reference list but the references will no longer be linked to EndNote.

This is helpful for

  • cutting and pasting in a word document
  • submitting your research paper to a publisher
  • sharing your document with a co-author/supervisor who may not have the same version of Word and EndNote. This may corrupt your document
  • keep a plain text version of your paper
