Palliative Care Support Organisations

Palliative Care NSW is the peak body and leading voice for our members and the community, promoting quality palliative care for everyone. It addresses the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of people, to allow them to live as well and as comfortably as possible. Palliative Care recognises the unique needs of a person who is approaching and reaching the end of their life, as well as the needs of their family and carers.

Palliative Care NSW has compiled a list of resources focusing on Palliative Care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families and health professionals.

Note: It is free for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers to become a member of Palliative Care NSW. This includes Indigenous liaison officers and Indigenous community workers. You can become a member of PCNSW here.

Palliative Care NSW has compiled a list of resources offering culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities with Palliative Care information in a variety of languages.

Information on end-of-life care for consumers: The Commission has prepared an information sheet about how care should be provided to people at the end of life in hospitals. It provides patients, family members, carers and consumers with useful information.

palliAGED Evidence Summaries are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care and managed by CareSearch, Flinders University.

The evidence summaries are arranged by topics, and provide a concise synopsis of findings of systematic reviews dealing with the topic in a palliative care/aged care context.

Each Evidence Summary has a companion page with practical information found in the Practice Centre. Each Evidence Summary also has a companion Evidence Synthesis which is a more detailed discussion of the evidence. The Evidence Synthesis reports the gaps in the evidence base and may also include controversies in the literature.

End-of-life care: The health care that people receive in the last years, months and weeks of their lives can help to minimise the distress and grief associated with death and dying for the individual, and for their family, friends and carers.

National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe and high-quality end-of-life care: The Consensus Statement describes nine guiding principles and 10 essential elements for the provision of end-of-life care.
