Creating safe and respectful workplaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women : A beginner’s guide

This guide produced by Our Watch, an independent not-for-profit organisation, aims to: 

• enhance the understanding of people and culture and diversity and inclusion teams about the nature and drivers of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in workplaces 

• support people and culture and diversity and inclusion teams to embed workplace equality, respect and cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, clients/customers and partners in the workplace 

• outline actionable steps workplaces can take to address discrimination experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in workplaces, stemming from the impacts of colonisation, racism and sexism.

NSW Health Aboriginal Family Health Strategy

The NSW Health Aboriginal Family Health Strategy provides a framework for responding to family violence in Aboriginal communities within a culturally competent, family based context with a focus on healing. 

ECAV Aboriginal programs

The NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV) has been working with Aboriginal Communities since 1985. During this time the organisation has developed rapport and trust resulting in a high profile amongst key Aboriginal people. ECAV is committed to enhancing the quality and accessibility of services to Aboriginal people whose lives have been affected by sexual assault, family violence and child abuse.
